Calculator Information

Calculators are used often in middle school math and science classes.  I will let the students know specifically when they CANNOT use one. I have a classroom set to be used at school and for tests.  I know many smartphones have calculators, but since they can't be used on a test at school, having a calculator is encouraged.

Scientific Calculator:

  • Solar-powered preferred
  • should cost less than $20 (good prices with back-to-school sales)
  • used for all middle school math and science classes in grades 6-8

Suggested Calculators options from the major brands (look for models less than $20 and are solar):

You can find these calculators at Wal-Mart, Target, Office Depot, Amazon and other retailers

Students do not need a fancy graphing calculator that are very costly until they are in high school.

20-21 welcome.jpg

Hello!  Welcome to Bristow Middle School!  I am Mrs. Kreisel (pronounced cry-sill), your Math and Science teacher this year. I am lucky to be teamed with Mrs. Bernard, who is your Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.  We are both very excited to have you in our classes! I know school is looking a little different this year, but we will will all work hard together to have a terrific year!

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up!  And, I have been fortunate to do just that and make this as my profession.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (with authorizations in Mathematics and Sciences) from CSU, Chico.  In, 2019, I received my Masters in Educational Leadership with my preliminary Administrative Services Credential from CSU, East Bay.  This will be my 22nd year of teaching at Bristow Middle School and my 24th year overall.

I have lived in Brentwood since 2001.  My husband's name is Joe and I have two daughters Lindsey and Audrey.  Lindsey is in 9th grade at Liberty and Audrey is in 6th grade here at Bristow.  As a family, we enjoy going camping and traveling to new places together.  We also like to eat out, go shopping and visit family around Northern California.

Canvas LMS for Parents

Please take a few minutes and watch all of this video:

We'd appreciate it if you download the Parent Canvas app and set yourself up as an observer for your student(s).  If you have already signed up to be a parent observer for you child previously at their elementary school, you still are linked to them. You sign back into the account and you should see them on your list.  When searching for our school, use "Brentwood Union School District".

Students are encouraged to use the Student Canvas app if they have an Apple or Android device. Again, when it asks for school,  use 'Brentwood Union School District" and your school account to access.

Learning will take place in the following manner (click graphic to enlarge):

We will use Classlink to access the various apps needed for each course.  The easiest way to sign in to Classlink is via the Bristow website.

  • Asynchronous learning(or AL for asynchronous learning) are items that students will do on their own, without being face-to-face with a teacher.  These will generally be instructional videos that need to be watched to complete a task, and homework to be completed after a class.
  • Synchronous learning (face-to-face) will take place daily via video or Zoom.
  • All assignments can be accessed by signing into Classlink, select the Backpack app and click on the Canvas app.  Once in Canvas, you will need to find your teacher/subject. Using the calendar on the homepage of our class, click on the date you need and the agenda page will give the lesson plan and assignments for that day.
  • Although completing an assignment on the day it is assigned is BEST
  • Join a Zoom session!  Parents or students who need help may join a session from 1:30-2:30

  • You may message me through Canvas (either parent or student)

  • You may e-mail me by using the link next to my name on the Staff Directory.  Please be aware that if you are a student using your school account I CANNOT return a message to you this way.
  • Updated weekly ~ students will receive feedback on individual assignments.
  • Parent Portal ~ grade should always be checked by clicking on this link and logging in.  Students may check their grades by clicking the Student Connect app in Classlink.
